Hi everyone!
Today I got to sleep in a bit while Dad did some work on his iPad. He came back into our hotel after about half an hour and told me that my teacher, Mme. Miller, was on Skype! I got dressed and came out to the main room, sat in the hammock and talked to her for a few minutes. We arranged to call back so I could talk to the whole class as it was recess and they would be returning to the class shortly.
When they started to file in, Mme called us back and I got to talk to the class for about fifteen minutes. It was really nice to hear their voices and see them on screen…! It’s sometimes lonely having only Dad to talk with and he’s usually talking with some of his RE/MAX friends about referrals and percentages. I miss everyone in class a lot!
After we signed off from Skype we packed up and took the bike (and all of our gear) to the restaurant in the town square that we had gone to for dinner the previous night. Their breakfast menu had various options and I ended up getting a breakfast taco with rice, beans and eggs but the best part was the drink! I had an oatmeal and banana milkshake, which I hadn’t known existed. It was sooooo amazing!
After breakfast we gassed up at a nearby PEMEX (gas station) before we left for the 2.5-hour ride from Chetumal to Tulum. When we arrived we were greeted by Roberto Rivas, the owner of RE/MAX in Tulum. He has a big, red, white and blue jeep with RE/MAX bumper stickers all over it. He yelled “Hey!” just as we were passing him. We pulled over, hugged hello and got back on the bike so we could follow his jeep to the RE/MAX of Tulum. After meeting his business partner R.J. Thoman, we had them sign our RE/MAX flag before Roberto accompanied us to the hotel he had booked for us. We dropped off all of our stuff at the hotel before climbing into his jeep and going for dinner on the beach at one of his favourite restaurants in Tulum.
We saw the sunset while I enjoyed a quesadilla with guacamole on the side. During dinner, we were having a nice, simple conversation when a shoe fell from the sky and hit dad on the arm. I laughed and when we looked up we could see people on the balcony but no one was looking over for a lost shoe. We called up and tossed the shoe to a girl who apologized and took it back gratefully.
After dinner we left to the supermarket to see if we could find new batteries for our SPOT locator (the little GPS type thing that sends a satellite signal of our exact location to my Mom and others) but instead found trail mix (we were running dangerously low), a wall plug adapter for the iPads/iPhone and a chocolate bar for me (I hadn’t had any chocolate in forever!).
Dad then found a bank machine so we could get a few more pesos because we were down to our last few and we then went back towards the hotel. On the way there we heard music playing and spotted a bunch of BMW motorcycles so we headed into the town square in search of the music and the BMW guys. We soon found them and dad told them about the trip in Spanish; one of them had even heard of us! That was really exciting! They talked about motorcycle stuff for a bit before we parted and continued to the sound of the music.
We saw a show was being put on by the town and there was a group of little kids doing a dance number dressed up in traditional clothing! We watched them dance to mariachi music for a while before we came back to the hotel.
We FaceTimed my Mom and my sister Jossy when we got wifi and when we finished we came into the room, watched TV for awhile then went to bed (well, Dad went to bed; I wrote this blog).
Goodnight and talk soon!
